Indianapolis Colts lost Daniel Jones and will sign a new quarterback.

Indianapolis Colts started the season with a solid 7-1 record, making them one of the AFC favorites. They were quite dominant and formed one of the best duos of the season. Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor established themselves in the league with outstanding performances. It was a rebirth for the quarterback after tumultuous years with the New York Giants.

However, the franchise began to decline, initially without much fanfare. Things quickly worsened. After defeating the Atlanta Falcons, they suffered three consecutive losses, relinquishing their lead in the AFC South. Two of those three losses came against divisional rivals, jeopardizing their playoff hopes.

Last Sunday, they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars in a rainy game marred by Daniel Jones’ injury. The former Giants quarterback ruptured his Achilles tendon and is confirmed to miss the remainder of the season. Furthermore, backup quarterback Riley Leonard left the game with a knee injury, leaving them in need of a new quarterback.

Indianapolis Colts to lure him out of retirement

As reported by journalists like Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo, the Colts are set to sign Phillips Rivers as their new quarterback. The 44-year-old veteran ended his career in January 2021 with Indianapolis. This represents a significant risk, as Rivers has been retired for almost five years and away from professional activity, making it seem like a decision as absurd as it is desperate.

With their recent loss to Jacksonville and the Houston Texans’ victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, they have fallen to third place in the AFC South, with an 8-5 record, the same as Houston. It seems like the season is lost, and there are some very difficult games ahead. The schedule will close out against the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars, and they will finish against the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium.
