Kyler Murray to part ways with Arizona Cardinals

Kyler Murray has been relegated to backup quarterback and will seek a trade.

Kyler Murray was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville, Tennessee. The Arizona team selected a highly promising player and was looking to return to the top of the league. They needed a new franchise quarterback and saw Murray as an opportunity to regain postseason success, though that hasn’t quite worked out.

While Kyler dazzled everyone in his first year, winning the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2019, his performance has declined. In 2020 and 2021, he was selected to the Pro Bowl, a great achievement, but he hasn’t been able to maintain his position among the league’s elite. Little by little, and with a team that didn’t offer him much support, Murray has gone from being the Cardinals’ hope to a nightmare.

This season has been the final straw; the franchise’s patience has run out. It hasn’t been a good season for the number one overall pick in 2019. Arizona is no longer interested in keeping him, and the player himself is exploring other options to leave once and for all and reclaim his starting job. There are teams interested in having him as their number one quarterback.

Kyler Murray’s Future

According to several media outlets, the New York Jets are leading the race to sign the 2018 Heisman Trophy winner. The Jets are reportedly tired of Justin Fields’ poor performance and are interested in the former University of Oklahoma quarterback. However, the Cleveland Browns are also said to be interested after Shedeur Sanders’ dismal debut.

Murray lost his starting job after five games, winning two and losing three. He threw six touchdowns and three interceptions. Jacoby Brissett has managed to improve the Cardinals’ performance, although they are a team destined to fail this season. Last Sunday, Brissett broke a franchise record, completing 47 of 57 passes, the most in league history, surpassing Jared Goff’s 45. With this, it seems Kyler’s career will continue away from Arizona.
