The purple team is having a terrible season and it’s getting worse.
The Minnesota Vikings haven’t had their best season so far. It seemed like a major restructuring was underway, with a bet on the young J.J. McCarthy. The former University of Michigan quarterback was selected in the first round of the 2024 draft with the 10th overall pick. The former Wolverine hasn’t been able to perform as expected.
After a first season with limited playing time, as Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones, now with the Seattle Seahawks and Indianapolis Colts, respectively, were ahead of him in the pecking order, the young quarterback has struggled and has been relegated to the bench. Veteran Super Bowl champion Carson Wentz, signed this season, has taken over as the starter.
The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has improved the team’s performance somewhat, but it’s not enough. The team’s overall poor performance has them in last place in the NFC North. With a 3-4 record, it seems like the season is over, as they’re struggling with both of their quarterbacks. And they would be looking for a replacement with extreme urgency.
Problems for the ‘Vikies’
The Purples have some very bad news. Following their loss to the Chargers in Los Angeles last Thursday night, their starting quarterback, Carson Wentz, underwent shoulder surgery and is out for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, McCarthy remains injured, and it’s uncertain whether he’ll be able to return soon. There’s speculation that J.J. could return for Week 9, but it’s unlikely.
Next Sunday, November 2nd, they’ll face the Lions in Detroit, a formidable team. At the moment, it appears that Max Brosmer, who finished the game in Los Angeles and is the third-string quarterback, will start at quarterback against one of the most complete teams in the NFL.
